Bob Marvin was the first modern maker to measure most of the extant renaissance recorders in Vienna and other significant collections and attempt to recreate both the bore design and the higher renaissance pitch found in many of the surviving instruments (A466). I first heard an 8' consort of Marvins played at the 1972 Festival of Flanders in Brugge by the Vienna Recorder Consort under the leadership of Hans Maria Kneihs and I was truly awestruck at the choral beauty of the consort sound. Today Bob continues to produce outstanding instruments from medieval to early baroque and has a waiting list for his limited one-man production of 3-13 years, depending on the model.
